Scholarship Opportunities for PTK Member


The USA TODAY All-USA Community College Academic Team annually recognizes 20 outstanding two-year college students, offering stipends of $2,500. All receive extensive national recognition through coverage in USA TODAY.

The Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team
annually recognizes 50 New Century, 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars with each scholar receiving a stipend and recognition in USA TODAY. 150 national finalists also receive stipends.

The Guistwhite Scholarship Program awards twenty qualifying students scholarships of $5,000 each, for completion of baccalaureate degrees.

DEADLINE:

All applications must be mailed or shipped to the indicated address. They must be received (and not postmarked) at Phi Theta Kappa headquarters by December 1, 2009, 5pm CST. Late applications will not be considered.

Leaders of Promise/Geico Business Student Scholarships

The purpose of the Leaders of Promise scholarship program is to provide new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in a two-year college in order to develop leadership potential through participation in Society programs. Leaders of Promise is the Society's first scholarship program available to members to be used during the time they are enrolled in their community colleges. Up to 30 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded based on applications submitted by members. To be eligible to apply, a student must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa in good standing and currently enrolled in an associate degree program, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on all college-level coursework. Students who have completed no more than 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) of coursework as of January 31, 2010, ARE eligible to apply. Student with previous degrees are NOT eligible. All completed applications must be received (not postmarke d) by May 1, 2010.

DEADLINE:

Complete applications should be received (and not postmarked) by May 1, 2010, 5:00 pm, Central Time. Independent judges will review applications and determine the Leaders of Promise scholarship recipients. Award winners will be notified by August 1, 2010.

The Foundation will award approximately 30 scholarships to outstanding students to begin studies in fall 2010. Each award will cover a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, and other required fees, and books for the final two to three years of the baccalaureate degree. Every scholarship varies, depending on the cost of attendance and other scholarships or grants received. 

The maximum award available per student is $30,000 per year. Scholars may use the award to attend any accredited college or university in the US or abroad in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. The Foundation renews awards annually, provided the Jack Kent Cooke Scholar has maintained high academic performance, exhibited good conduct, made significant progress toward a degree, and complied with the Foundation’s administrative requirements and requests.

1) Nominee Application Deadline is January 20, 2010 (Closes at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time)

 2) Nomination Deadline is January 26, 2010 (Closes at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time)

 

To be eligible, applications must be submitted online by January 20, 2010.  Faculty Representatives must submit the online nomination by January 26, 2010.  Letter of recommendation writers must submit their online recommendation by January 26, 2010.

 

Most community colleges establish earlier internal campus deadlines for their receipt of applications. Students should check with the faculty representative for their campus to determine their internal deadline.

Please Note: Students may not apply directly to the Foundation for this scholarship.  All applicants for the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program must be nominated by the Foundation’s Faculty Representative at their two-year institutions.
