Our Purpose: We want to make PTK Omega Phi Chapter known to our community by reaching out and helping those who need it the most.  Broward Outreach Center is a local homeless shelter that houses over 200 residents (including children and families). This center that has a large need for volunteers, and  we as students at Broward College and members of PTK decided to put our knowledge, talents and time to service and help Broward Outreach Center residents by teaching, helping, and encouraging them.

The following is a list of the areas we have volunteered:

  • Kitchen: helped prepared and served food for lunch time
  • Boutique: sorted through bags of donated clothes, shoes, accessories and placed them in categories such as Adult, Children and Career clothing/accessories.
  • Education:  Tutored aspiring GED students with Math problems and English grammar.
  • Hope Totes: put together over 130 Hope Totes bag, which contained hygiene items, socks, underwear, etc. Bags were given to Broward Outreach center residents and for the homeless outside the center.
  • Christmas Gifts: helped in sorting, organizing and wrapping of Christmas gifts for the children and families of the center.
  • "Thanksgiving in April" Event: we helped in the set-up of tables and chair, sorting of clothing, distribution of the "thanksgiving meal", children's face painting and Easter Egg-Hunt.

Omega Phi Chapter started volunteering at the center in October 2008. For us, volunteering at the Outreach Center is such a great and gratifying experience. We truly appreciate the opportunity to service our community!
